Skills/ Needs analysis

Introduction to course. Students match skills & experience to their course requirements. Plenary discussion about working in South Africa and employers’ needs.

Internet job search

Plenary analysis of sample jobs advertised via the internet. Students access a variety of recruitment web sites to identify jobs they could apply for. Plenary review.

Newspaper – Recruitment advertisements.

Students list information sources on target employers. Plenary review of local and national publications. Students identify jobs which they could apply for.

Students consider qualities of ideal employees. Plenary analysis of language used in advertisements students have selected. Students extract information from advertisements.

Where to apply for a Visa

We will provide you with a letter of acceptance and if you require a guardianship in order to apply for your visa we will send you the necessary documentation.

Please note that for entering South Africa, immigration requires that all passengers have a valid passport and at least four pages are needed to remain blank for the issuing of stamps. The passport also needs to be valid for the duration of the stay and six months after departure.

If you are subject to visa requirements, you will need to apply for your visa at least 4 weeks before your departure at your nearest South African Embassy, High Commission or Consulate.

Eligibility for Health Services : Publicly funded health services do not operate in South Africa. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you will be liable for the full costs of the treatment. You are advised to have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while you are studying in South Africa.

Driving in South Africa: If you have a current overseas driver’s licence or a current international driving permit, you can drive for one year after you first arrive in South Africa. If you do not have an overseas driver’s licence or an international driving permit you cannot drive. An international driving permit is an internationally recognised translation of your current driver licence. It is not a driver licence in its own right, and must be accompanied by your driver’s licence when you drive.

You can only drive the types of vehicles covered by your overseas driver’s licence or international driving permit.

• General courses start every Monday except on public holidays

• The minimum course length is 2 weeks

• The homestay weekly fee does not include bus fare

Students who stay with our personally selected homestay families experience a great opportunity to learn and practice their English naturally, in everyday life situations.

• Our homestay families are carefully chosen for their comfortable homes and their caring, friendly and helpful attitudes.

• All our homes are inspected to ensure a high standard of comfort.

• All homestays include breakfast and dinner Monday – Friday and all meals during weekends and Public Holidays.

• All students undergo our Homestay Orientation Programme on their first day. This programme helps students to make the most of their homestay experience.

• A typical South African homestay house has gardens and lawns and often a swimming pool. Each student has his/her own separate room.

All our students are monitored to ensure they are happy and comfortable in their homestay environment.

We advise students of their homestay family details before their departure for South Africa.

TalkTalk is able to arrange lodge accommodation for students* this accommodation is usually a single room, with a shared bathroom (linen supplied). Other students sharing are likely to be foreign students the attending NNMU Campus. This would be a self catering. Communal facilities are available for all tenants.
